Teamname: Magister Compliance Safety

Members: Andrey Yarizov, Alexander Fahl, Andreas Käckel und Noel Jacobs

Magister Compliance Safety is a digital occupational safety system that is specifically tailored to the requirements of universities.

We are systematically expanding our system into a central management platform that simplifies the day-to-day administrative tasks of those responsible, for example through digital document management and, in the future, tools for the direct creation of security-related documentation.

At its heart is an intelligent machine access system that ensures that machines and work equipment in laboratories and workshops can only be used by trained personnel. In this way, we not only ensure compliance with regulations, but also actively promote practical teaching.

How did you come up with your idea?

The idea was born out of a specific need. The lab manager of our makerspace at TH Köln, Andreas Käckel, was faced with a key problem: how to ensure that only trained individuals operate the (potentially dangerous) machines.

The search for a suitable solution was sobering—there was simply no system designed for the flexible and safety-critical requirements of a university. So, in typical engineer fashion, we decided to develop our own solution.

First, in study projects, we (Alexander and Andrey) developed an initial prototype. When we realized that other universities were also looking for exactly the same solution, it became clear to us that we wanted to start a start-up and make our system accessible to everyone.

How did you come together as a team?

We, Andrey and Alexander, met while studying mechanical engineering at TH Köln. Later, Alexandra joined us through a mutual friend. As a designer, she was looking for an exciting project and brought exactly the creative skills that ideally complemented our team. From the very beginning, we received special and energetic support from our mentor, Prof. Dr. Jörg Luderich, as well as from the heads of Makerspace, Andreas Käckel and Noel Jacobs.

A Funfact?

We originally started this elective project during our bachelor's degree in a group of six, with the pragmatic goal of dividing up the tasks in a relaxed manner. But due to COVID-19 and internship semesters, Alexander and I were suddenly on our own. So, by chance, a large group project and the desire for “little work” turned into our current founding duo.
