How can universities enhance their transfer culture and start-up activities? The University of Cologne has developed a particularly effective tool: proactive and subject-specific transfer scouting. It is embedded in a comprehensive transfer strategy of the University of Cologne.
By establishing transfer scouts in all faculties, we have created a model that anchors transfer systematically, visibly, and effectively. This white paper shows how the scouts build bridges—between disciplines, between science and practice, between ideas and their implementation. It documents the experiences gained from five years of Excellence Start-up Center.NRW funding. This white paper offers valuable insights for universities that want to further develop their own transfer structures, with a particular focus on initiating knowledge-based spin-offs.
